Welcome to The Center for Virtual Worlds Education and Research

CVWER, Inc. is dedicated to the exploration of virtual, adaptive, and immersive environments in general, with a particular emphasis on their use in the fields of formal education, procedural training and informal learning.

Our Mission

The Center for Virtual Worlds and Education Research was created to foster research, collaboration and influence as education transitions to an immersive, interactive model. The field of immersive learning is at a tipping point; we are poised to fill a need for solid research for educators and for institutions as they move into this environment.

While the Center reaches out to the global community, it is currently based in Western New York which puts it in a hotbed of activity in the fields of immersive learning, virtual worlds, virtual reality, augmented reality, and gaming.

The CVWER is devoted to learning and immersive environments. Our focus is on facilitating research, disseminating information, and encouraging collaboration by:

•  Providing Journals dedicated exclusively and specifically on the use of immersive environments for education, thus enabling a location for researchers to publish their work as well as a resource for experts in the field to look to for the latest information;

•  Providing events, including an annual conference, in order for educators, researchers and business people to network, learn, and collaborate in a collegial environment;

• Providing training for those new to virtual environments.  The Center’s staff provides a broad overview for administrators and management, hands-on training for direct users, or anything in between;

•  Promoting the use of virtual environments for education and training by disseminating current information on their use and encouraging open discussion on the topic.

The Organization

CVWER, Inc. was founded in 2009. The Center’s management team consists of a Board of Directors and an Advisory Board working closely with the executive director.

Legal Status

The Center for Virtual Worlds Education Research, Inc. is a non-profit corporation, filed in the State of New York.
